Chelsea Lodge

22-guest room European-style hotel is conveniently located to all of New York City, but still gives a sense of being away from it all. The secure, private, and quiet Chelsea Lodge provides a clean and comfortable environment at reasonable rates for our guests.

Put down this book right now and go book a room at Chelsea Lodge, before every other budget-minded traveler looking for the citys best new bargain gets there first. Housed in a lovely brownstone on a landmarked block, this small hotel is brand new, utterly charming, and a terrific value. The young, friendly husband-and-wife owners have put in an incredible effort: Impeccable renovations have restored original woodwork to mint condition and created a homey, country-in-the-city vibe with beautiful wallpapers and wainscotting, smartly refinished vintage furniture, and lovely little touches like Hersheys Kisses on the fluffy pillows. The beds are the finest and best outfitted Ive seen in this price category. The only place with a similar grown-up sensibility for the same money is Greenwich Villages Larchmont (above), but all bathroom facilities are shared there; at Chelsea Lodge, each room has its own sink and in-room shower stall, so you only have to share a cute toilet room with your neighbors. I wont kid you - rooms are petite, the open closets are small, and beds are full-size (queens wouldnt cut it). But considering the stylishness, the amenities, which include TV (not common in this price category), a ceiling fan, a small desk, and an alarm clock - and the great neighborhood, youd be hard-pressed to do better for the money. Best for couples rather than shares.

Chelsea Lodge Hotel NYC

Tip: Try to book 2A, which is bigger than most, or one of the first-floor rooms, whose high ceilings make them feel more spacious.

If you are looking for a hotel to stay in for a large amount of time while visiting NYC, and have no interest of seeing Manhattan to the fullest, I would not recommend this place.
